ICP at Trinosophes

The ICP Orchestra from Amsterdam made another visit to the Detroit area on May 5 at Trinosophes in the Eastern Market area. We hope this was not their last time, as the rumor mill had it. This is a wonderful aggregation that successfully blends off-beat/avant garde improvised music with various strands of European-American music. They appreciate the absurd in a way that is unique, while at the same time celebrating many forms of music, popular and/or art music from Duke Ellington to Herbie Nichols.

Their founder Misha Mengelberg no longer is able to play with the group and has been ably replaced by Guus Janssen on the piano, however co-founder Han Bennink is still very vital at the drum kit.

A number of soloists stood out: Michael Moore on alto, tenorists Tobias Delius and Ab Baars, trombonist Wolter Wierbos, violinist Mary Oliver and trumpeter Thomas Heberer.
