Don Chisholm Celebrated
SEMJA co-founder Don Chisholm was celebrated at the Kerrytown Concert House on April 26 with the 2015 Jazz Hero Award from the Jazz Journalist's Association. WEMU / SEMJA's Linda Yohn nominated him for the award and the JJA endorsed it. Yohn presented Don with the award as part of Ellen Rowe's All About the Trio program and also acted as an MC for the afternoon. Music was provided by Rowe's group (All About the Trio), this time with music by George Shearing featuring special guest Cary Kocher on vibes, bassist Pat Prouty and drummer Sean Dobbins. Shearing's music was appropriate for the occasion since Don grew up listening to it and he was clearly touched by it this Sunday.
A very special tribute was given by University of Michigan jazz student Hannah Baiardi, who played a piece she wrote for Chisholm. It was a wonderful celebration of a major sponsor of jazz in our area.
