Planet D Nonet in Club Series at Kerrytown

The SEMJA / KCH Club Series continues at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, with the Planet D Nonet appearing on the Kerrytown Concert House stage. Planet D is the brainchild of drummer RJ Spangler and trumpeter James O'Donnell, and they play anything from swing numbers to the music of Sun Ra and South African township jazz. It is a rollicking band which on this night is reinforced by Detroit born saxophonist Salim Washington from Brooklyn. The band records for Eastlawn Records and has recently released Blowin' Away the Blues in two volumes. Others in the band include Justin Jozwiak, Jim Holden, and Joshua James on saxes, Ken Ferry on trumpet, John Paxton on trombone, David Gadd on piano, Noah Jackson on bass, and Akunda Hollis on percussion.

The Club series recreates the feeling of a jazz club by adding tables next to the stage and by serving drinks (beer, wine, and soft drinks). SEMJA members are your bartenders.
