Tenorist Tim Haldeman’s trio played in the Tuesday night jazz series at Old Town Tavern in Ann Arbor on September 22. Pictured are also drummer Nick Collins and bassist Ben Rolston. The trio was in the tradition of Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson, but with their own take on the masters.
Haldeman was also a guest when Chicago drummer Frank Rosaly played Kerrytown Concert House on August 25.
Pianist and vocalist Dena DeRose presented a highly skilled and personal tribute to Shirley Horn at KCH on August 22, backed by Rodney Whitaker on bass and Sean Dobbins on drums.
Tenorist Ben Jansson visited his hometown from Japan on August 13 and got to play at Kerrytown Concert House with some of his old bandmates, including trumpeter Paul Finkbeiner. His stay in Japan has not lessened his considerable chops and ability to swing,
