Teddy Harris’ Baker’s Celebration
On August 25, Baker’s threw a very well attended birthday party and benefit for Teddy Harris. A nice sum of money was raised to help the Detroit master pianist with his medical bills. There was standing-room only and the club was forced to turn people away at the door. No wonder...when one of the Detroit jazz community’s central figures is ailing.
The lineup on stage was impressive: James Carter, Donald Byrd, Johnny O’Neal, Claude Black, Ernie Rodgers, Charlie Gabriel, Donald Walden, Don Mayberry, Marion Hayden, Rod Hicks, George Davidson, Karriem Riggins, Naima Shambourger, Orthea Barnes, Angie Smith, John Conyers, and many others.
