Atomic

Atomic in Ann Arbor

The Swedish-Norwegian band Atomic visited Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor on February 12 as part of a North American tour. They impressed with their musicality, spirit, and seriousness of purpose. The band just recorded their first album, but unfortunately it was not available in time for the concert.

Outstanding soloists were tenorist (and clarinetist) Fredrik Ljungkvist and the brilliant trumpeter Magnus Broo. Bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten was as fiery as he was in last fall’s Edgefest and the young Norwegian drummer Hans Hulbaekmo had no trouble creating that extra rhythmic tension that is part of all jazz performances, whether mainstream or avant garde.

Not shown in the picture is pianist Havard Wilk.
