Obituary: Jack L. Campau

Jack Campau passed away on February 1 at 87 years of age. Jack was a major force in SEMJA and other area jazz organizations for many years, mostly side-by-side with his wife Ann who passed away almost two years ago. They leave behind two children (Jeff and Mandy), and two grandchildren. No services will be held, per Jack’s wishes.

Jack and Ann met at the Bowl-O-Drome on Dexter in 1947 and were married the following year. Jack eventually became a professor of engineering at the University of Detroit, but maintained his interest in jazz all of his life. Jack and Ann joined SEMJA in 1992 after having worked for many years with the Graystone International Jazz Museum. Later they were both very active with the Michigan Jazz Festival. Jack and Ann were both tireless volunteers, with many talents, and a large network of friends. They are sorely missed by members of the local jazz community.
