Edgefest Parade

Edgefest Mix

BY LARS BJORN

Maneri, et alThe 15th annual Edgefest at the Kerrytown Concert House mixed the avant garde/improvised music of the jazz and classical traditions for five days. As always, we were treated to a world-class festival of its kind. A new kick-off point was a free concert at Encore Records with the Tamarindo Trio on Tuesday October 18. Even though there was standing room only, the venerable record store provided an excellent listening space and an encore is likely at Encore. At the Concert House, I was particularly impressed with the violin-piano duo of Mark Feldman and Sylvie Courvoisier, Lucian Ban and John Hebert’s Enesco project, James Cornish’s short opera with Philip Levine poems sung by Deanna Relyea, and the always exuberant parade through Kerrytown market.
