Pat Flowers Passes On
The
well-known pianist Ivelee "Pat" Flowers passed
away on October 6, 2000, at the age of 83.
Flowers attended Cass Tech and
by 1935 he was appearing in local clubs. He was an almost permanent
fixture at Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit from about 1939 to
the mid-1950s. From 1946 to 1947 Flowers recorded for RCA Victor
in New York with His Rhythm, including several of Fats Waller's
former sidemen.
Recently Classics released two
CDs with his recorded work. Classics 1060 covers the years 1941
to 1945 and gives a good idea of his wide-ranging repertoire from
Chopin to "Eight Mile Boogie." Classics 1093 includes
the RCA Victor recordings with a lot of Waller songs.
