Parkwood Records Sold to Jazzology

Parkwood Records, one of the few local labels specializing in jazz, has been sold. The buyer is New Orleans based George H. Buck, who oversees a number of labels — Jazzology, Audiophile, Progressive, GHB and Solo Art — making up one of the largest traditional jazz catalogues in the world.

Windsor, Ontario, guitarist/producer Hugh Leal established Parkwood in 1983 with a recording of Doc Cheatham and his New York Quartet. Cheatham also appears on a recent Jazzology release of Parkwood material: Doc Cheatham: Live at the Windsor Jazz Series 1981 (see review). This recording features pianist Jim Dapogny, bassist Dan Jordan, and drummer Pistol Allen.

The Parkwood catalogue includes twenty-one recordings by many other national and local jazz greats: Sammy Price, Art Hodes, Franz Jackson, J.C.Heard, Marcus Belgrave, Johnny O’Neal, Dave Young, George Benson, and others. For more information contact Hugh Leal at 519-944-9798.
