Louis Smith Trumpets

SEMJA has two of Louis Smith’s trumpets for sale.

Here Comes Louis SmithWhen Louis Smith departed this earth last year he left behind several trumpets, and his widow, Lulu, contacted us to help dispose of them. There are two left, both older horns from the fifties and early sixties. As many of our members know, Smith recorded for Blue Note records in 1958, and the older of these horns was more than likely used on those historic recordings under his own name: Here Comes Louis Smith and Smithville. They are both Mt Vernon Bach trumpets.

Please contact SEMJA via email or phone (734-668-7470) if you are interested in purchasing these trumpets. SEMJA has set up a Louis Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund for young musicians and the proceeds from the sale of the horns will be split between the fund and Lulu Smith.

Editor’s note: Not long after the November Update went to press, both trumpets were sold. Further details will appear in our December issue.
