Paul Keller Orchestra

Remembering Phil Woods

The great alto saxophonist Phil Woods passed away in late September in his hometown in Eastern Pennsylvania. His music was commemorated by some of his biggest followers, Ann Arbor’s altoist Doug Horn and the Paul Keller Orchestra, on October 5 at the Zal Gaz Grotto in Ann Arbor. It was a heartfelt tribute with lots of well played music, including big band arrangements like “Quintessence” by Quincy Jones. Horn was at his very best on this great ballad — soulful and fluent.
