Jackie Ryan

Jackie Ryan in SEMJA / KCH Series November 22

Club SeriesCalifornia vocalist Jackie Ryan impressed greatly at her last visit to the Kerrytown Concert House in 2011. She will return on November 22 as part of the SEMJA / KCH Club Series, which means that SEMJA volunteers will be at the bar for the evening. Ryan will perform at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. with Ellen Rowe on piano, Paul Keller on bass and Pete Siers on drums.

Jackie Ryan was born to musical parents, an Irish father and a Mexican mother, in the Bay Area. She has recorded seven CDs of her own, most of them backed by the cream of West Coast jazz musicians. Her 2013 album, Listen Here, was produced by bassist John Clayton, and featuring pianist Gerald Clayton on the title track. It has reached number 1 on JazzWeek's nationwide chart, as did her prior album (Doozy), which featured pianist Cyrus Chestnut, tenorist Eric Alexander, and guitarist Romero Lubambo. Prior to these she recorded with Jeff Hamilton, Toots Thielemans, Ernie Watts, and many others.

Ryan has been praised by many, including Clark Terry ("a true jazz singer"), Terry Gibbs ("she knocked me out"), and Jon Hendricks ("It's sparklin' and swingin', like good jazz singin'").
