Stanley Clarke at DJF 2019
Bassist Stanley Clarke will be this year’s Artist-In-Residence at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Clarke is a fourfold Grammy Award winner who was introduced in his new role at a Preview Luncheon at the venerable Detroit Athletic Club on April 2.
Clarke will appear on three of the four days of the festival, which starts on Friday, August 30 of Labor Day weekend.
Other headliners will be Ron Carter, Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Danilo Perez, Terence Blanchard, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Sheila Jordan, and Joe Lovano.
A highlight of the luncheon was a performance by Clarke and tabla player Salar Nader and violinist Evan Garr (above).
