Around Town

TOP: Accordionist Peter Soave returned to the Kerrytown Concert House and other Detroit area venues with the Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings on February 10 and the following week. They played a repertoire spanning from Bach to Claude Bolling to the Venezuelan composer Aldemaro Romero. As expected there were (three) pieces by Astor Piazzola, bandoneon virtuoso and father of the new tango. Soave is also truly a master of his instruments and a genial host. It was wonderful to seem him back in Michigan.

ABOVE: Dave Douglas brought his Quintet to the Concert House on February 16 and treated a packed house to his tight group, great compositions, and brilliant trumpet playing. He premiered a piece inspired by our miserable political situation. Linda Oh’s bass was rock solid and together with Rudy Royston’s powerful drumming supported the quintet perfectly.
