Mr B

Mr B Bash at Kerrytown Concert House

Mr B (Mark Braun) celebrated his birthday as part of the SEMJA / KCH Club Series on February 13 at the Kerrytown Concert House. B treated us to boogie woogie blues classics like “St Louis Blues” and Roosevelt Sykes’ “I Got Too Smart Too Soon,” but also a number of swing numbers like “On the Sunny Side of the Street.” On the latter number his main guest for the night, trombonist John “Tbone” Paxton, entered the stage from the back of the room to great effect. Paxton and B were a perfect combination in a series of New Orleans numbers, like Professor Longhair’s “Mardi Gras in New Orleans” and Huey “Piano” Smith’s “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” (vocals by Paxton). Another guest was B’s old friend from Flint, guitarist Joe Cunningham.
