Parlour Game at Kerrytown Concert House

Drummer Allison Miller and violinist Jenny Scheinman’s Parlour Game visited the Kerrytown Concert House on May 3. The group grew out of Miller’s Boom Tic Boom and has found a comfortable and accessible spot between avant garde improvisation and mainstream jazz. The rhythmical intensity was not far from that of hard bop and the selected tunes were relatively short and melodic.

It was also obvious to everyone that the quartet was having fun on stage. On the opener, “Fake Weather,” there was some great dialogue between Scheinman and Carmen Staaf’s piano. Tony Scherr has an impressive tone on his bass and swung nicely with the always tasteful Miller.

A delightful concert!
