Johnny Trudell Big Band

Michigan Jazz Festival 2016

MJF logoThe free Michigan Jazz Festival is still going strong in its 22nd year. The Festival features great music in a very comfortable and friendly environment and you have a choice of listening inside or outside. This year’s festival will be held on Sunday, July 17, at Schoolcraft College in Livonia from noon until 9:00 p.m. There will be music on six stages inside buildings or under a tent on the lawn, performed by 34 groups, including five big bands, for a total of around 150 musicians. The complete schedule can be found below and in our online calendar.

Two of the jazz acts you can enjoy are Johnny Trudell’s Big Band (top), shown in the DiPonio Room last year, and Glenn Tuckerpianist Glenn Tucker (left), also in a photo from last year’s festival. Tucker will be one of the pianists in the Solo Piano Room this year.

Schoolcraft College features high quality food services, and plenty of opportunities for socializing. As usual, SEMJA will have a table in the Jazz Walk outside the Solo Piano Room, so please drop by and say hello. SEMJA sponsors the Future of Jazz Stage in Henrys Café, where you will find high school and college bands.

The college is located at 18600 Haggerty Rd. in Livonia. There is plenty of free parking. For further information please call 734‑462‑4403, email, or go to the Festival website.
