Changes in WEMU Program Schedule
WEMU
(89.1 FM), Eastern Michigan's public radio station, has made some
adjustments to its program schedule this year. They will affect some
of the jazz programs that no doubt are a regular part of the diet of
SEMJA's membership.
National Public Radio's Fresh Air with Terry
Gross will move from 3:00 p.m. to noon, with a repeat broadcast at 6:00
p.m., formerly at 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Afternoon Jazz with
Michael Jewett shifts to 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by NPR's
All Things Considered with local host Jake Reading from 4:00 to 6:00
p.m. Monday's Cuban Fantasy program with host Alberto Nacif will
now air from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Evening Jazz with host Michael G.
Nastos will now begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and end
at 11:00 p.m.
The station has a new lineup of weeknight programs
that begin at 11 p.m. The popular local avant garde program, The Outside
Within with host James Cornish, will move from Thursdays at midnight
to Mondays. Tuesday sees the return of the popular NPR program Marian
McPartland's Piano Jazz. NPR's Jazz from Lincoln Center with
host Ed Bradley airs on Wednesday, and another program from NPR, Jazz
Profiles with Nancy Wilson airs on Thursday. Portraits in Blue with
Bob Porter, from WBGO in Newark, will remain on Friday, with a repeat
broadcast on Sundays at 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday, Beale Street Carvan, produced by the
Blues Foundation in Memphis, makes its WEMU debut at 6:00 p.m., and
NPR's Jazzset, with host and Michigan native DeeDee Bridgewater,
will air at 11:00 p.m.
WEMU is a listener-supported, NPR affiliate with
a format of local news, jazz, and blues in addition to NPR news, information,
and cultural programming. The station broadcasts to an eight-county
area including all or part of Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Livingston,
Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, Lucas (OH), and webcasts
live twenty-four hours a day.
